In This Lifetime...

The Path of The Thinker

first time I was here —

I was divided.

mind and body split

control evenly, but

never at the same time.

Today I am here

Seeking Wisdom,

Mission.

At The Same Time —

To unite .

Those who believe in the Lotus Sutra are as if in winter, which never fails to turn into spring. Never have I seen or heard of winter turning into autumn. Nor have I ever heard of any believer in the Lotus Sutra who remained a common mortal. A passage from the sutra reads, “Among those who hear of this Law, there is not one who shall not attain Buddhahood.” - Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, Vol. 1, p 149

If I had any doubt before that my violin is a reflection, or even an extension of my heart and voice - I do not, any longer harbour doubt. I have always been quite a literal person but this recent episode is almost a comic example of how literal I seem to need things to be in order to truly learn or engrave a lesson in my life. In this case, it is the Buddhist concept of the Oneness of Life & it’s Environment. Having had my heart broken repeatedly over the past few months, it appears that my violin could no longer keep up the facade of being whole and healthy either. It too needed to burst at the seams and crack down the center, as close to the heart of the violin as can be, in solidarity with me. How poetic and slightly tragic… The luthier says it will take a couple weeks of work to repair my violin and in the meantime has given me a very nice loaner violin. I am grateful. As for my own heart, I hold it in my own hands. Though broken, it beats strong.

For me, the high is in creating the story, not the performance. The performance is, in some ways, the dirty business of fighting the war.

Wu-Tang’s “Reunited” with Karen Briggs on violin.. she kills it as does the whole clan. Love this track

True greatness means that, even if you forget what you’ve done for others, you never forget what others have done for you. It means always doing your utmost to repay debts of gratitude. Such people radiate integrity, depth of character, bigheartedness and charm.”

My album dropped today. It’s official. You can find Misnomer(S) on our website, iTunes, CDBaby, Amazon, etc. Strange to stare at the actual product, finally, after all these years. Started filling orders tonight and making packages - fun!

This piece, the 2nd movement of the Dvorak’s  ”American” String Quartet (played here by the Prague String Quartet) has been haunting my fingers for some time; and today, I worked it out. This piece represents to me, without words, our album and everything it took to make it and put it out. It also speaks to where I am in my life right now in this very moment…

The Diner.

He sat across from her, quiet and nostalgic. “How did we begin this journey?” he wonders and remembers.  ”How did we end up here?” she ponders to herself.

A difference in time, a sharing of space.

Hands linger, lips fall apart.

Boundaries disintegrate.

The sound of their prayers resonates in her ears, as she looks him in the eye, and lets go…

Her heart floods with tears and light.

His heart beats a steady drum.
